please walk on the grass

when i look out of my window onto the road below i dream of someday digging massive holes in the road surface and planting trees and grass and things. imagine how great things would look if all the houses and shops and things were still there but the horrible grey concrete and asphalt (it is what roads are made of) was replaced by meadowland, huge oaks trees with shafts of sunlight shining through the canopy and a dusty foot worn track to walk along.

my neighbours would obviously disagree with this as they are all currently having their front gardens paved over for parking space. the city is ruled by concrete and traffic and pollution and it seems to me that most people are missing the point entirely. where i live we could easily remove a third of the roads and as long as there was still space for people to park and they did not have to walk too far to their house i think everybody would be happier if they could walk on the grass more often.

sometimes i think that i would have made a better iron age man than 21st century city dweller.
