gravity

today's discussion is not for the week minded.

ok, so on monday i was thinking about gravity as i was walking by the tram tracks near where i live. it is the sort of thing that i quite often do because i am more interested in the universe than pretty much anything else. anyway, gravity is a pretty strange phenomenon when you really think about it. take the earth for instance - the amount of mass in the planet is sufficient to distort the already sun warped space time in this region of the universe by so much that we can only jump about a metre off the ground before we fall back towards the centre of the planet. if it were not for the electrostatic repulsion between the electrons in your feet and the ground your atoms would drop straight down the gravitational well to the middle of the earth and stay there oscillating. we are living in a finely balanced environment. electrostatics are pushing us away from the earth's surface and gravity is pinning us back down again.

gravity is your friend. use it wisely, angel.

remember, in most cases when you touch something there is actually no physical contact on a quantum level between the atoms in you and the atoms in the object. what you are feeling is the electrostatic repulsion between your electrons and the object's electrons - you are not strong enough to overcome this force and actually make contact.
